Homage to Marcel Breuer

Undeniable figurehead of the Bauhaus School, Marcel Breuer is honored here in a selection of his best works, reinterpreted by some of the most incontestable artists from the Board Culture and Street Art movement. From the legendary Wassily chair to the ski resort in Flaine, the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the ZUP in Bayonne, the Whitney Museum of Art in New York, to the Central Library in Atlanta, Marcel Breuer has left more than a mark on his era, he single-handedly revolutionized the world of architecture. An homage was absolutely necessary!

At the very moment Street Art is starting to be recognized, Spacejunk proposes a view of architecture built around the works of Marcel Breuer. At the request of the city of Bayonne, this exhibition reflects its current actuality: the place Marcel Breuer’s work holds in this city, his ultra pragmatic vision of urban architecture, and the relationship man has to the environment which has already, made for a passionate topic of discussion. If artists from the Street Art and Board Culture movement already possess a spontaneous and razor sharp vision of the city, their interpretations of Marcel Breuer’s works can only further a renewed interest in our environment, allowing us to be carried away once again by a city, its buildings or its furniture where decidedly, man has a place.
